Visitor Experience

Visitor Experience

Making sure visitors have a great experience in the area creates ongoing business and economic opportunity. Providing quality experiences rooted in sustainable tourism principles helps foster a sense of caring and long-term resources stewardship.

Curate unique visitor experiences based on sustainable tourism principles

Our work is guided by these strategic principles:

  • Coordination among businesses, community partners, and the towns helps provide a seamless quality experience for visitors.
  • Investment in outdoor recreation opportunities, and cultural and community assets is essential to developing an outstanding destination.

Example Projects:

  • Planning and implementing a comprehensive recreational wayfinding system.
  • Developing a high quality, warm weather map highlighting hiking and biking trails, water access, universally accessible trails, and other outdoor recreation amenities.
  • Investing in new outdoor recreation infrastructure.

Finding Our Way

Our work in 2021 - Immediate Strategic Actions:

Our work has identified immediate strategic actions, including:

  • Launch our pledge, and pivot destination marketing to connect with the emerging ‘sustainable traveler’ and communicate shared responsibilities between visitors and residents.
  • Implement wayfinding that creates a ‘sense of arrival’ and reflects the region’s innate rugged sense of individualism and subtle sophistication.

Our Operating Principles

  • We believe the Mahoosucs Region has a truly remarkable constellation of recreation assets. This provides a fantastic base for the destination package, but it also must be reflected in the total visitor experience.
  • We are making a pivot from destination marketing to investing is sustainable tourism. We think this will add new vigor and value to destination messaging and enhance our visitor’s experience.
