A VIBRANT GATHERING PLACE CENTERED AROUND COMMUNITY AND SUSTAINABILITY
Gemini Café on Main Street in Bethel stands as more than just a place to enjoy freshly baked goods and wholesome meals. It is a beacon of community spirit and sustainability, thanks to co-owners Anna Sysko and Nicole Pellerin. Watch our interview with Anna to see how this duo transformed a former bank into a vibrant gathering place centered around community and sustainability.
The Mahoosuc Way Principles in Action:
“We want to make sure that the food you get is from scratch, from real wholesome ingredients, a lot of them based locally here in Maine.”
Cultivate Community: Whether it’s the art made by locals hanging from the walls, or the dining ware made by the potter up the street, Gemini Café is committed to fostering a sense of community. Their café is a safe space for people to gather, dine, and spend time together. They source many of their products and ingredients from local farms and purveyors in the area, further showcasing their dedication to celebrating the local community.
Be Climate Conscious: When opening the Gemini Café, co-owners Anna and Nicole made it a goal to be as sustainable as possible and not use any fossil fuels. The building was refurbished using passive solar techniques, incorporating thick walls and keeping warmth inside during the winter and expelling the heat during the summer season. It runs off solar energy, with credits purchased from a local solar farm that was built on a landfill. Additionally, they have eliminated the use of gas and oil by cooking with only electric appliances.
