LOCAL NONPROFIT BUILDING CONNECTIONS THROUGH STEWARDSHIP

Inland Woods + Trails is a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing and maintaining an extensive network of multi-use recreational trails throughout the Mahoosuc Region. With year-round recreational activities ranging from XC skiing and snowshoeing to biking and hiking, they provide opportunities for all ages and abilities to enjoy the outdoors.

Watch our interview with Eric Boyle-Wight, Operations Director of Inland Woods + Trails to see how mindful trail building and strong community engagement can help preserve the Mahoosuc region’s natural resources for generations to come.

The Mahoosuc Way Principles in Action:

“If you cherish a place, you really want to keep it whole and healthy. I want to see this region continue to be prosperous economically but also hold the values and natural resources that we have.”

  • Explore Wisely: Inland Woods + Trails approaching trail building with intention. Their slogan, Woods + Trails + You, highlights their dedication to sustainable forestry and thoughtful trail building practices. They also provide resources such as trail maps and markers to keep people on-track while enjoying the outdoors. This helps improve the longevity of trails and health of the environment.
  • Care for the Land: The Inland Woods + Trails network spans across both public and private land. It is important to maintain a good relationship with landowners and people who use the trails to understand and respect landowners wishes so everyone can continue to enjoy the land for recreation.
  • Cultivate Community: The success of Inland Woods + Trails would not be possible without the help of volunteers. There are many ways to support the work of Inland Woods + Trails: trail work and adopting a trail are two examples of this.
